Has anyone ever gone to the hospital for depression? Updated

I'm thinking about doing this today but I'm scared.

I called my psychiatrist and I'm meeting with her in an hour and a half and I'll discuss this with her then. Thanks to those who commented so quickly, it helped me make the call.

Not me personally, but a very good friend and also my ex-husband. If you feel like you are going to hurt yourself this sounds like a good idea.
I also volunteered at a Suicide Prevention hotline. You sound like you really need to get some help. ASAP.
Please please take care of yourself. For bubba's sake.

My mom has been hospitalized several times, a few times at a mental health facility and at least once via the ER. Can you call your therapist? She might be able to guide you through the process. If she's not the one who prescribes your meds, can you call that person?

Dooce just wrote about her positive experience with hospitalization for depression: http://www.dooce.com/2007/12/13/because-i-couldnt-say-it-phone . Definitely do whatever you need today to get help, please.

I'm proud of you for reaching out and hope you will always keep this option open if you feel like hurting yourself or you're at the bottom and digging deeper.

I'm here for you and sorry if I haven't been more supportive lately, but I do care and love you!
